What is Ethnography?
Ethnography, the subject of this certificate, is both a set of qualitative research methods employed in the humanities and social sciences and a mode of presenting that research—in books and articles, in film and video, in embodied performance, and, increasingly, in digital formats and multiple media. At Yale, the growing number of programs and departments engaging ethnography include, but are not limited to, African American Studies, American Studies, Anthropology, Environmental Studies, Ethnicity, Race & Migration (ERM), History, Political Science, Sociology, and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies (WGSS). This certificate will be of interest to students interested in thinking ethnographically across these disciplines.
